Rolling Road GC Golf Course Management

Another busy week at the club.  From normal weekly maintenance to prepping for MAGA tournaments, the crew had an amazing week. For the last half of July I am pleased with how the course is looking but summer is not even close to being over.  For superintendents the weeks between July 20th and August 15th are always the toughest weeks of the year.  Long days, hot, humid, thunderstorms to deal with, water management and tired grass, makes these next couple of week the most important of the year - and will set the course up for late summer/early fall.  We will be in full protection mode for what is coming up. The team started off the week preparing for the 2-day MAGA Senior Championship.  This tournament was held on Monday and Tuesday.  We hosted close to 100 players each day.  With tee times from 8:00am to 1:00pm both days, morning moisture prep was extremely important.   We are in the dog days of summer.  This week we have seen high heat, some days with low humidity, and some days with high humidity.  We started the week off wet and we have ended the week extremely dry.  The crew has been putting in the hours this week to stay on top of this weather.   During the beginning of the week, when we were not dragging hoses we were able to spike the greens to help with water and air movement into the greens profile.  The crew also knocked out most of our weekly details including a full sand depth check.   This week we were also able to spray all playing surfaces.  We used the good soil moisture at the beginning of the week to also spray some weeds around the course.   As I'm sure most noticed, McDonald and Sons came back out over the weekend to add drainage to the new 17th tee expansion.  The reason we needed to add drainage was because of poor construction mix and tree shade.  The tee was staying extremely wet.  This week after the drainage was install
