Week of March 30th

Last days of March and a new month started.  The "Flip Flop" weather continued this week: frost and freezing temperatures last weekend, record highs, then back to more normal temperatures and above average temperatures for this weekend.  It has been extremely difficult to lock in our spring programs and stay on a consistent schedule but our team continues to crush it with another busy and productive week.    This week we applied our second round of Poa seed-head control on greens and fairways.  We are happy with the results so far but with the inconsistent weather patterns it's hard to say if our timing of the applications was correct.   Our tree contractor was out again this week removing all the dead wood out of the 3 Elms on hole 11.  Removing the dead wood ensures safety while playing and we are currently working with the Greens Committee on planning the replacement of these trees.   The big project for the week was sodding wi...

The "Flip Flop" March weather continued this week.  From record highs to thunderstorms, wind, cold temps and even some snow showers.  The team had a very productive week.   We started off the week applying our first round of Poa seedhead control on greens and fairways.  This applications prevents the Poa plant from seeding which allows for better playing conditions and also strengthens the plant for the summer months.     The snow and ice we received this winter has put the team behind on some winter projects.  This week the team continued punching rough around the course.  We are over 50% complete and will continue punching rough over the next few weeks.  We hope to be completed by the end of the month.     Our tree contractor was out this week grinding all the stumps from winter tree work.  A full two days was needed to complete the grinding.  We will start the process of cleaning the stump grinding...

Tough week.  We had it all: 60 degrees, snow, rain and fog.  The team had a very productive week even with all the weather challenges. The team finished up in-house tree work this week removing a spruce tree on the 8th tee box.  Now that tree work is completed we will have our tree company here next week to grind all stumps and limb dead wood out of some trees around the course.   The crew battled through snow and rain in the middle of the week and continued sand depth checks in the bunkers. This is a process to check all areas for proper depth, then moving and adding sand where needed.  They will be around 75% complete at the end of the week and should have no problem finishing next week.   We found some time this week to power wash the back of the clubhouse.  As the weather warms up the team will continue power washing other areas around the property.   Also this week we tackled an irrigation issue left over from last seaso...

What a winter it has been.  From setting records for low temperatures to snow lasting for more than 20 days.  It has been a difficult winter to get winter work completed but the team is making the best of it. The team had a great week working on projects both inside and outside. While the team has been waiting for the snow to melt they have been working on refurbishing all course accessories, organizing all shop areas to gain efficiencies and deep cleaning the shop areas.   Also the team used the break on the course to continue shop improvements adding 3 shelving units to the lean-to area to increase our storage capacity.   Working with BGE (and we all know how much fun that can be), we finally were able to have their tree contractor out to limb back the 5 trees close to the shop.  These trees were overhanging the power line leading to the maintenance area.  This should help reduce power outages at the shop.   This week Julian, Ti...

This week was the first week back for the entire crew after a much needed holiday break.  The weather this week started off with above average temperatures and finished off windy and freezing. The team had a great week starting 2026 on the right foot.   The team took advantage of the cold mornings and frozen ground conditions to tackle some tree work.  The focus this week was some of the Siberian Elms on hole 11.  These Elms were in bad shape with tons of dead wood in the top canopy.   With the coldest weather of the season forecasted for next week, we made sure to get another round of top-dressing out on the greens.  The topdressing will help protect the crowns of the plants from the harsh temperatures.    The main task this week was to continue punching the rough.  The team knocked out some major acreage this week before the weather put a hold on punching.   Severe slopes are areas where the aerators can't reach s...
