Week of June 30th

Last week of June and the start of July.  The beginning of summer has been tougher this year than past years.  Cold to start, followed by extremely wet, then hot and dry, followed by hot and wet. We have had it all so far and we are not even close to the end of summer.  Routine sprays not working, other sprays causing turf issues, having to mow when wet, then watering like crazy.  Storms producing intense lightning that has caused major issues to the buildings and irrigation system.  The start of this summer is one to remember.  This week was more of the same: hot and dry followed by hot and wet after extreme thunderstorms.  The team fought through all the weather challenges and had a great week.       The team started off the week hand watering, getting some much needed course details done and spraying.   Not only were greens tees and fairways sprayed this week, the team also completed our monthly herbicide applica...

The last full week of June was a tough one.  HOT HOT HOT was the story this week.  The team fought through the hottest weather we have seen in a long time.  Temps soared in the upper 90's with heat indexes over 110°F.  The course held up very well considering the weather and heavy play, mostly because the team did an amazing job.   The team braved through the heat to complete all weekly details.   The main focus was keeping the grass cool and alive.  The team spent long days syringing to prepare for (and work through) events and tournaments.  Morning prep was the key to surviving this week.     Many have already noticed that last week we installed Coach's tree near the 12th green.   Lastly, with very little rain this week and and high temperatures forecasted, the team will be focused on moisture management and prepping the course for the weekend.   Thanks for reading.

Another busy week for the maintenance team.  Our team had an amazing week not only completing normal weekly tasks but also getting ready for summer weather to finally arrive.   The team started off the week venting greens followed by a light top-dressing and soil spray application.  These processes are the first round heading into summer weather.   This week was a heavy spray week.  Not only completing the soil spray on greens but also spraying all tees, greens, fairways and rough with plant nutrition, pre-summer plant stress, and weekly fungicide applications. All weekly details were completed this week, as well as a full bunker trim and sand depth check.   Native areas have been a hot topic of discussion this spring.  I feel it is a good thing that we continue to adjust the golf course after the renovations and the introduction of native areas to the course.  This week we started looking at some areas that have created prob...

Week of May 26th

The story for the last full week of May was "beating the rain." With the holiday weekend and rain our team did their best completing weekly tasks with the short week.   With heavy rain forecasted for Tuesday afternoon the team's main focus before the rain was a full mow out and spraying all short grass.   Also before Tuesday's rain the team was able to sneak in our season-long insect control in all native areas and apply top-dressing to the greens.     With the course soaked after almost 2 inches of rain the team focused on detail work on Thursday.  They completed a full bunker detail, edging sprinkler heads, and fairway divots.   Lastly, with more rain forecasted for Friday, the team will concentrate on a full mow out of the course before the weekend.  Thanks for reading.

Week of May 5th

First full week of May and spring is here.  This week the weather has been beautiful. With some much needed rain last weekend, the course is starting to shine.  The team had an unbelievable week - everything from irrigation leaks, flowers, tree work and normal weekly maintenance.  They crushed it.   The team started off the week receiving our flower order for the year and wasted no time installing over 100 flats and over 1500 individual flowers in 2 days.   Also at the beginning of the week we completed some emergency tree work between holes 6 and 7.  This Elm was in bad shape and was causing issues on the 7th fairway.  The root system of the Elm was compromised due to old age and was actually leaking water into the fairway. We did have some irrigation issues to resolve this week but this year has started off better than prior years as far as irrigation repairs.  Fingers crossed.   We have also started our grooming and b...
