Week of Sept. 1st

We hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend.  What a beautiful weather week.  Chilly mornings and warm afternoons was the story this week.  We did catch some rain Thursday and we are all hoping to get a little more this weekend.  The team had a great week.   After a long Club Championship weekend the greens received a spa day on Tuesday.  The team started off their week venting and top-dressing greens followed by a soil spray and heavy irrigation cycles.   Before the rain Thursday afternoon the team spent numerous hours dragging hoses trying to reset soil moisture.  Thursday's rain was the first we have received in almost 5 weeks.    The irrigation system has been preforming well this season due to all the upgrades but we did have 4 irrigation repairs to make this week.   The team did an amazing job during these dry conditions watering the new native area behind 6 green, and we saw our first signs of seed germinati...

What a season it has been.  It is crazy to think that after record rainfall early this summer, we are now talking about droughts.  August 2025 will go down as the driest August of all time.  Here at the club we have only received 0.09" of rain for the entire month.  This season is Top 3 toughest seasons that I have been involved in.  After making it through some of the worst summer wet and hot conditions I have seen only to have Mother Nature finish the summer off in a drought.  I can't express how lucky we are to have such dedicated staff.  Once again the team had an amazing week fighting through hose work and getting all normal weekly task completed.     The staff has done an amazing job with moisture management this week.  The team started off every day with prepping the course for the day and - with the low humidity, wind and lack of rainfall - this has been a challenge.   All weekly details were completed this ...

What an amazing week.  The team knocked it out of the park this week and took advantage of our 3-day aerification closure.   Here are some pictures of the team hard at work punching greens, tees, approaches and practice areas.  The team also took advantage of the closure and sprayed wetting agent on greens, tees and fairways.  Also we were able to sneak in our monthly rough sprays.   Even with all the punching and cleanup the team was still able to get some detail work in: trimming creeks, clubhouse areas and spot-spraying native areas.   After greens were punched we went after the stubborn area on 16 green.  The team stripped the dead turf, removed the contaminated soil and replace the area with fresh turf from the nursery.  With the limited play this week we decided to spray out the new native area behind the 6th green.  This area will be roped off and restricted from cart traffic while the non-selective herbicide work...

Week of July 14th

What a stretch.  This has been some of the toughest growing conditions I can remember.  Storms, heat, humidity and no wind made this week brutal.   3 rounds of storms this week made the course soft and saturated.  When you combine the rain, temperatures, high humidity, and lack of wind the course is staying wet and has no ability to dry.  This has made mowing on normal schedules nearly impossible.  We had to raise the heights of cut on all short grass areas to help prevent mechanical damage and give the turf a fighting chance to survive.   Emergency soil and foliar sprays were needed this week to help prevent soil diseases and protect the plant through this stretch.     Moisture management and being in control of the moisture is the most important factor to making it through the summer months.  We have been very successful so far this season pushing soil moisture and keeping surfaces drier until this week.  For...
