Week of January 13th

Cold and windy was the story this week.  The team started most days inside and tried their best to get some work done on the course, which was a challenge with the below average temperatures, snow and ice.     This time of year is the busiest for Equipment Technicians.  Fernando is completing all winter services, repairs, sharping and grinding every piece of equipment to ensure everything is ready for the upcoming season.    We did have some tree work completed late last week and our team found some time this week to clean up the logs and debris left over.  The two trees behind the 6th green had a lot of dead wood in the canopy and were a safety risks being so close to the green.  The big Oak tree to the left of the 16th green was limbed back off the green and dead wood was removed.    Lastly, the team spent some time this week going through course accessories.  They completed refurbishing all bunker rakes, coolers, tras...

Happy New Year! 2024 brought a lot of challenges and, personally, I'm glad it's over. For the first blog of the new year I wanted to do a year in review and share some pictures.    Master plan tree work. The team removed safety issue trees, trees causing turf damage and trees to improve sight lines around the property.    Irrigation expansions to unirrigated areas to improve turf performance.   Pump house grading for cart safety and easier access to the bathroom.     Extensive bunker reconditioning to ensure proper sand depth and consistency.    Key Bridge. Tree Plantings.   Flower bed additions.   Fourth of July Weekend.   Dog Days of Summer - record heat waves and extreme droughts. Orchard plantings and introducing a bee hive to help pollinate the fruiting trees.   Club Championship Weekend.   Late September rain - 13 consecutive days will measurable rain fall.   Q...

The maintenance team hopes everyone had a great holiday last week and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  This week was the first full week of December and old man winter showed up early.  The story this week was extremely cold mornings and windy afternoons.  Our team braved the cold and had a good week.   The cold mornings kept us inside for the start of most days this week.  The crew spent time cleaning and organizing shop areas as well as a lot of computer work.  Here is Connor entering this past year's spray records, weather data and going over all the programs we used this year.  This is a great time of year to reflect on what worked (and what didn't) so we can make adjustments to all our programs next year.   The team started some tree work this week with the focus on safety.  This tree was just right of the 13th green.  As you can see this tree was in rough shape.  The tree was completely hallow f...

Another mild week to start, finally some decent rain Wednesday night, then cold and windy for the end of the week.  It was another busy week for the maintenance team.   The week started off with fence line trimming.  After the team trimmed back the overgrowth on the fence last week, they brought out our lift to start trimming back the trees and branches above the fence line.   The last quick couple was installed this week.  This was the final step in Phase 3 of winter irrigation work.  The team did an amazing job installing over 70 quick couplers on fairways and tees.   Once Phase 3 was completed the team wasted no time starting on Phase 4 of winter irrigation upgrades, installing new rough heads in high traffic areas.  They completed holes 6, 7 and 14 this week.  We are installing heads in the areas that we spend a lot of time hand watering.  This Phase will be a long process.   You may notice this week s...

After a week of 70's and 80's this week started off the same and then turned chilly and windy.  It was another busy week for the maintenance team.   This week the team started trimming back the fence line.  As you can imagine this is a long process. The team starts this project with a demo-ed piece of equipment called a Ventrac Boom Mower.  The Boom Mower is a big hedge trimmer that cuts all the overgrowth down.  Once the overgrowth is cut the team rakes the debris away from the fence, followed by our debris vacuum.  Please bear with us on this project.   We continued installing quick couples on fairways this week.  The crew was able to complete holes 1 and 6.  Hole 1 took the team a little longer because we had to move a sprinkler head that was installed with the incorrect spacing.  We are still hoping to finish installation of the quick couplers this week, but with the fence project we might have to finish the last hol...
