Week of June 30th
Last week of June and the start of July. The beginning of summer has been tougher this year than past years. Cold to start, followed by extremely wet, then hot and dry, followed by hot and wet.
We have had it all so far and we are not even close to the end of summer. Routine sprays not working, other sprays causing turf issues, having to mow when wet, then watering like crazy. Storms producing intense lightning that has caused major issues to the buildings and irrigation system. The start of this summer is one to remember. This week was more of the same: hot and dry followed by hot and wet after extreme thunderstorms. The team fought through all the weather challenges and had a great week.
The team started off the week hand watering, getting some much needed course details done and spraying.
Not only were greens tees and fairways sprayed this week, the team also completed our monthly herbicide application in native areas as well as our monthly fungicide and nutrient package in the rough.
This week a storm containing dangerous lightning, high winds and heavy rain rolled through. The team spent most of the day Wednesday and Thursday cleaning up storm damage, fixing the irrigation system and removing water off the course.
For the second half of the week the team will be focused on mowing the course out, finishing storm clean up and spraying to get ready for a great 4th of July weekend.
Happy 4th of July from the maintenance team.
