Week of June 9th
Another busy week for the maintenance team. Our team had an amazing week not only completing normal weekly tasks but also getting ready for summer weather to finally arrive.
The team started off the week venting greens followed by a light top-dressing and soil spray application. These processes are the first round heading into summer weather.
This week was a heavy spray week. Not only completing the soil spray on greens but also spraying all tees, greens, fairways and rough with plant nutrition, pre-summer plant stress, and weekly fungicide applications.
All weekly details were completed this week, as well as a full bunker trim and sand depth check.
Native areas have been a hot topic of discussion this spring. I feel it is a good thing that we continue to adjust the golf course after the renovations and the introduction of native areas to the course. This week we started looking at some areas that have created problems. We decided to mow down this area in front of 3 forward tee. This is just a test not only to see what the area looks like mowed down but also to come up with a plan of attack for other areas around the course.
Speaking of native areas, this week the team completed our first herbicide application in all native areas. This year we are using a small cart sprayer and walking these areas to reduce tire tracking from our larger sprayers.
You may notice what looks like black sand on the back of 16 green. We have still been struggling in this area from last year's herbicide application. We used a product called Activated Charcoal which should reset and remove any left over herbicide in the soil allowing the grass to start rooting.
Lastly, for the remainder of the week the team will be focused on water management and getting the course ready for the weekend. Happy Father's Day!
