Week of February 21st

This week brought another rollercoaster of weather.  60's and 70's the first half of the week to low 30's with rain and ice.  The grass has no idea what to do.  We even hit 74 degrees on Wednesday.  Your RRGC maintenance team made the best of the weather and had another great week.

On Monday we started prepping for the parking lot project which is only a couple weeks away.  Here is Edwin, Fernando and Diego cutting through the old parking lot so we will be able to install irrigation and utility pipes for future clubhouse projects.

We were able to complete our winter tree work program this week.  This tree on the 8th hole was damaged from past storms and not doing well.  The tree was a huge safety risk due to its location right off the cart path and its extensive damage.

This week we were able to complete the very time consuming and labor intensive jog of trimming back the fence line around the property.  This process starts by using a boom mower to trim back the overgrowth as much as possible, then the crew has to come behind the mower to cut and remove the remaining debris.

On Thursday our Equipment Manager Brian continued furthering his education at the joint MAAGCS and MEETEM Equipment Managers meeting held at Turf Equipment and Supply Company.  The meeting covered new testing for equipment managers certification, new products and Tier 4 technology for all diesel equipment with more than 25 hp.

We were able to sneak in our 1st mow on greens for 2022.  After knocking off the winter fuzz, the greens and the new greens expansions looked great.

We continued monitoring the progress on the new practice green and we will continue to keep a close eye on the green's progress to make sure that when we open the practice area it will be able to handle the traffic.  The roots and turf are looking good but it's not quite ready to handle the expected traffic load.  We will continue to keep everyone updated on its potential opening date but I would rather use caution and open the green a bit later and have it in great condition all year over opening it too early and having to close it in July.

The crew continued repairing and sodding cart path areas around the course that were damaged during the bunker and tee project.  We hope to have all the areas repaired and sodded over the next couple weeks.

Lastly the patio project is back in full swing.  The new masonry contractors have made great progress this week installing the steps, the step walls and fixing the pillars.
