Week of May 23rd

It was another productive week at the club.  The weather this week allowed the maintenance team to knock out our normal weekly maintenance and get some pre-summer tasks completed.

The team started off the week aerating fairway and new fairway expansions.  With the addition of the new tractor and large area aerator we completed all fairways by Tuesday afternoon.  Before we head into the summer months we like to punch the fairways with 3/4 inch solid tines to help with rooting and water infiltration.  After the mow on Wednesday the holes were not noticeable and should be all healed up by next week.

On Tuesday we continued working on the bermudagrass on the short game area between holes 12 and 13.  We punched with solid tines and top-dressed using a 7-2-1 sand mixture to help smooth out the area.  With rain forecasted on Friday we plan on fertilizing this area. It should be open for special events soon.

This week wasn't without its challenges.  Our ageing irrigation system showed its face often this week.  We had a total of 5 irrigation issues that were repaired this week and we are up to 15 for the year and the system hasn't even been fired up for 2 months.

We have been receiving a lot of questions about the new practice green use.  As you can see from the picture above the section to the left is for putting and chipping only, no pitch shots.  The middle section closest to the 1st tee is for putting only, no chip and pitch shots.  The section to the right is for pitch shots only.  Also, please do not hit bunker shots and pitch shots towards the parking lot.

Lastly, we wanted to show an example of proper divot pattern.  The picture above shows the correct way to take divots when practicing on our short game areas.  Please use the linear pattern at all times.

Thanks for reading.
