Week of July 25th

The heat and humidity this week had the grass and staff on edge.  Last weekend was brutal.  Near record high temperatures over the weekend and the heat and humidity this week have made this a tough stretch. The crew has been doing everything they can to keep the course in great shape.  After the Monday outing we started off the week tackling our weekly sprays and catching up on mowing.  The crew completed most detail work early in the week so we could concentrate on water management for the rest of the week.   With the lack of rain over the last 10 days our fairway edges where the irrigation coverage is weak started drying out.  To prevent over watering the middle of the fairways, on Wednesday the team applied wetting agent only to the struggling areas and hand watered the product in.  Wetting agent products help with water infiltration and breaking up tight soils.    Edges of fairway highly infested with poa-annua started thinning out with the high temperatures, lack of rain and poo

Well it seems summer has finally arrived.  It has been a hot and humid week.  The course is holding up well through the first part of this heat wave that is forecast to last through the weekend and into next week.   The crew did an amazing job this week prepping for the 4-day MSGA Maryland State Women's Amateur that started on Monday.  It has been a battle to stick to our weekly maintenance routine, but the crew knocked it out of the park.   The rain storm that rolled in Monday evening gave us a break from hoses on Tuesday and we were able to try out this used boom lift to see if we wanted to add it to our equipment fleet.  This boom lift is a tow behind unit that will rotate 360 degrees, has a 2-man basket and will raise up to 38 feet.  This lift will come in handy not only for tree work around the course but also for work around the clubhouse and any other projects that require height.   It was another week of irrigation repairs.  The crew was able to fit in 6 more repairs betw

After last week's and weekend's rain it was nice to see a beautiful and dry week.  For the middle of July the course is in great shape.  The team has been doing an amazing job week in and week out.   We started off the week playing catch up from the rainy weekend, mowing all surfaces and getting ready for a busy week of golf.   With our One-Day Member Guest this week the team crushed all detail work before the event.  We also were able to start working on the native area on hole 7, string trimming and spraying weeds that broke through the thinner areas.   The team and I have started a bet.  I feel at this rate we will be north of 100 irrigation repairs by the end of the irrigation season.  The team thinks we will be over 200.  I hope not.  We had another 6 repairs this week.   We got lucky this week with the storms that rolled through on Tuesday evening.  We only had minor debris and very little clean up to do.  Some courses in our area got crushed.  One course lost over 190

What a spectacular July 4th weekend at the club.  We could not have had better weather on Monday for all the events.  Even with the holiday during the week - and losing a full workday - the maintenance team crushed it this week.   It was a full team effort playing catch-up on Tuesday.  All playing surfaces were mowed and the course was put back together from all the holiday events.   When playing hole 13 you will notice the new black/gold tee took a hit from the inflatable axe throwing game.  As soon as the inflatable was removed we punched holes to help with the compaction.  We will continue to monitor this tee box but we feel it will be looking better by next week.   With supply chain still an ongoing issue, new equipment is slowly starting to roll in.  Here is our new skid steer that is replacing the old one that had a motor blow up.  Hopefully we will continue to see new equipment coming in but the delays are growing by the day.   On Wednesday Raul and Diego performed another rou
