The last full week of August!!!!!!!!!  Summer is not over yet.  We had heat and humidity for the start of the week.  We missed all the rain and now here comes more heat and less humidity.  Missing the rain early this week was unfortunate.  The course is holding up well but now - with the humidity dropping and the temperatures back in the 90's - we will see our roughs and fairway edges start to struggle again.   On Monday we started off mowing all short grass areas.  We gave the greens a much needed break and just applied a soil spray.   Also on Monday we had the MSGA course rating team out to re-rate the golf course.  They were blown away with the conditions of the course and all the renovations we completed last year.   On Tuesday morning after the greens were cut we applied a light topdressing to all greens.  The crew dragged the sand in and watered in the topdressing and the soil spray from Monday.   I told everyone in last week's blog that I would jinx it by saying it was

What a beautiful week of weather.  Lows in the 60's and highs in the low 80's, couldn't ask for anything more for mid-August.  The course made it through the summer grind and, with sun angles changing and better weather, things should get a little easier for the maintenance team.   We did have some continuing irrigation repairs to make this week but during the last 2 weeks irrigation repairs have slowed down a bit.  Hope I didn't just jinx that.  I'm sure with the irrigation season still months away from being over we will have plenty more repairs but the crew has done an awesome job keeping up with the irrigation system.  It was nice to have a normal week of maintenance.  The team knocked out all the standard weekly maintenance practices, mowing and all weekly detail work was completed.   We were able to apply our second application in the new native areas this week.  We are happy so far with the 2 applications and we are seeing great results.  We will have 1 mor

First, let me apologize for not being able to publish the blog last week. The storms we received on Thursday, August 4th, overwhelmed the crew and recovering from that took priority.  I will recap last week in this week's blog post. WOW, what a brutal stretch this has been.  Hot, humid, dry, and wet all together.  The last 2 weeks will be one the crew and I would like to forget as soon as possible.  The course held up well and, with the help from the members and staff,  we made it through this stretch with only some minor bumps and bruises.   Let's start by recapping last week.  On Monday and Tuesday (August 2-3) we completed our summer aerification on greens.  The crew crushed it and we were able to reopen earlier than expected on Tuesday afternoon.  We like to punch greens the first week of August to help recover from July and in anticipation of typical August storms - like the ones we have had lately.   After aerification the crew concentrated on mowing the course and catc
