Week of March 13th
Winter made a little return for most of this week. Flip-flopping weather is common this time of year which can make planning tough. Despite the cold temperatures and extreme winds, the crew had a great week.
Battling wind chills in the teens, the crew's main focus at the beginning of the week was preparing the front of the clubhouse for new sod and plantings. They first removed all the stumps from the trees that were removed. Then removed all the old turf and laid out the new flower bed edges. Once the flower beds were laid out the crew marked the areas for the new trees and incorporated fresh topsoil in all turf areas. The sod will be coming next week to finish areas around the course and in front of the clubhouse. New plantings should arrive the first week of April.
The team also created new paver areas around the course for trash cans and water coolers. We hope to have the trash cans out next week and the water coolers out once the temperatures stay above freezing.
Our tree contractor was out this week fighting through the winds to finish off our work on Wilkens Ave. They started on hole 4 cutting down the 4 hazardous trees overhanging the green. Once hole 4 was complete they worked their way up hole 2. There are still more trees on Wilkens Ave that need to be addressed and BGE (with their tree contractor) are working up a plan to handle those remaining trees that are outside our fenceline.
On Thursday morning we were able to cut the greens for the first time post Drill and Fill in anticipation of our second application for Poa seed head control on Friday. We are extremely happy with the results after the first cut and hopefully with warmer weather the greens will start filling in.
