Week of March 6th

It was nice to finally have a dry week.  Cold mornings and nice afternoons was the story this week.  After Drill and Fill last week the crew didn't miss a beat and had a very productive week.

The crew started off the week removing the evergreens at the clubhouse.  These evergreens were overgrown, thinning out and some were dead.  This is the last of the tree removal near the clubhouse to get ready for the new plantings.

The rain late last week helped to beat some of the sand into the greens canopy but we still had some touch up work to do this week.  The crew completed another round of brushing, blowing and rolling at the beginning of this week.  I am very happy with the final results.

During the frosty mornings the team continued working on new course accessories.  With the warmer weather this winter we haven't had many inside days, so refurbishing and creating new accessories has taken longer this year.  We hope to have everything ready to go out on the course by the beginning of April.

With dryer course conditions the crew was able to get the boom lift back out on the course and continue pruning and elevating in-play trees.  The focus this week was in between holes 11 and 12.

Now that in-house tree work is almost complete we had our tree contractor come in to grind all the stumps around the course.  The team was able to clean all the stump grindings and started filing in the holes with fresh top soil.

Also this week we took advantage of the dry windy weather and cleaned all the sand that has been  blown on the bunker faces from this winter.  After the clean up we will start preparing some of the bunker faces for sod and check all sand depths.

Lastly, this week we finally had the BGE tree contractor working on Wilkens Avenue.  The first step in removing some of the trees on Wilkens Avenue is making the power lines safe so that our tree contractor is able to remove trees without any risks to the power lines.  We will be spending the remainder of the week cleaning all the debris left behind before the rain comes in on Friday.
