Week of June 12th
Another amazing week of weather for golf. The lower temperatures and low humidity are hurting our unirrigated areas - but the weather has been enjoyable!! The maintenance team had another busy week with normal weekly practices and continuing to fight the growing drought.
The team started off the week continuing to battle through this drought. They have been pulling hoses, day in and day out, to help keep areas hydrated where our irrigation system can't.
Monday afternoon we did get a little relief with a quick .33" of rain which brings our total since May 1st to .85". This is still well below the average rainfall and we are over 13 inches behind our year-to-date average. The team took advantage of having a day off pulling hoses to work on some details we were behind on. We were also able to get the rough mower out for the first time in over 2 weeks.
Also this week we had the opportunity to mow and roll the new tees and run-off area on holes 3, 16, 17. The run-off area behind 16 green is open for use and the tees on 3 and 17 are not much further behind, with the anticipation of opening the tees next week. We will continue to work on lowering the heights over the next couple weeks.
This week the team completed the first mow and trim on the pond and creek. We are very pleased with the results of the pond and creek restoration and can't wait to get a heavy storm to see how it performs.
The team had a couple irrigation repairs to complete this week and we were also able to get the fans installed and ready for use for the summer months.
Lastly, we applied our season long insect control in native areas just before the rain on Monday and we are happy with the way the native areas are looking. It was a slow start this year but now, with the warmer temps and the lack of rain, these areas are finally showing off. As a reminder, these areas do not tolerate traffic well during dry periods. Please keep out of the native areas with carts at all times.
