Week of Sept. 18th

After a soggy end to last weekend, this week has been a beautiful weather week.  Our team took advantage of the weather having an amazing and productive work week - not only completing all our weekly tasks but they were able to tackle some seasonal and pop-up projects as well.

This week greens, tees, fairways and native areas were all due for spraying.  The team completed spraying everything by Wednesday.

At the beginning of the week the crew completed venting greens with 1/8th inch solid tines, followed by rolling and another round of top-dressing.  With the potential for heavy rains this weekend we are going to try to top-dress greens again at the end of the week.

Once again we continued to work on fairy ring in the fairways.  This week we applied granular wetting agent and granular fungicides to the infected areas followed by heavy watering.  After the water we cut open the turf to make sure the chemicals were getting down to the fairy ring layer and reapplied water as needed.

Also this week we were able to fertilize all fairways and rough on Wednesday and finished up tee tops and tee surrounds on Thursday.

After the heavy rains last week the creek was finally put to the test.  The creek banks performed well but we did need to move some big rocks around to help protect the banks and remove some smaller rock deposits damming up the creek.

With the cooler night temperatures the Bermuda-grass practice area is starting to turn off color.  This week will be most likely the last week we allow hitting off the grass.  If the night temperatures continue to be cooler we will go back to mats only for the remainder of the fall and winter.  Please do not hit off the grass once you see the "Mats Only" sign return.

Lastly, with the potential of heavy rains from a tropical storm this weekend the team will spend the rest of the week mowing the course out and preparing the course for a wet weekend.
