Week of Jan. 15th
Cold and snowy was the theme this week. It had been over 700 days since our area has had over 1 inch of snow - and this week we received a little over 5 inches. The snow was a nice surprise and with temperatures in the low teens at night the snow is a nice blanket for the grass. Even with the course covered the maintenance team had a very busy week.
On Monday morning the team started out the day focusing on snow removal in the parking lot before heading out on the course.
After the parking lot and clubhouse areas were clear of snow the team took care of the two very dangerous trees to the right of #1 green. These two trees were in very poor condition and completely rotten in the middle.
Also on Monday we had our tree contractor come out and start grinding stumps around the property. They were able to get 20 stumps taken care of on their first day. We have not been able to continue stump grinding this week due to the snow cover.
Monday night into Tuesday morning was the main snow event. Despite the roads being a mess the team came in to plow and salt the parking lot throughout the day.
With temperatures in the low teens on Wednesday morning we spent the day inside starting to work on course accessories. The team was able to sand and prep all tee markers, traffic control posts, and 100-yard markers.
The team braved the cold temperatures on Thursday and completed the last tree to come down on hole #6. This elm had a lot of dead wood and posed a major safety risk.
Lastly, with another round of snow forecasted on Friday the crew will be focusing on removing snow and salting as needed to ensure the parking lot is safe. The course will most likely be closed through the beginning of next week but I did see some upper 50's possible during the middle of the week. We will keep everyone updated on potential course openings.
