Week of February 5th
It was a beautiful first full week of February. Frosty mornings and mild afternoons was the story this week. Our maintenance team hit the ground running this week.
The team started off the week tackling the irrigation expansion on hole 18. This area has never had irrigation, and with the addition of heavy cart traffic this area was always the first one to show summer stress. Just in this area alone we would spend 12+ hours a week watering with hoses and portable sprinkler heads. With the addition of 4 sprinkler heads, over 300 feet of pipe and wire, we should be able to almost eliminate all hand watering.
Now that ground conditions are right we were able to get the root pruner back out this week. Pruning tree roots helps reduce the competition for water and nutrients between trees and turf-grass, leading to healthier turf and better playing conditions.
Our team of equipment managers continued servicing mowers and carts this week, ensuring that all equipment will be ready for the upcoming season.
After last week, we only needed the stump grinder for one final day this week. Our tree contractor was able to complete grinding the last 12 stumps.
Now that stump grinding is complete the team started the long process of cleaning up all the grindings. This process starts with removing and hauling away all grindings. Then once grindings are cleaned the crew will inspect the area for any roots missed by the grinder, then use the mini-ex to removal all roots before moving to the next area. This process will take several weeks to complete before we backfill with top soil and sod these areas.
For the remainder of the week the team will be focusing on getting all short grass areas cut and the course ready for what looks like an amazing weekend for golf in February.
