Week of April 15th
Another beautiful spring week. We did have some storms roll through in the middle of the week but they didn't stop our team from having a very busy and productive week.
We started off the week preparing for a Mid-Atlantic PGA stroke play event. There were over 100 golf professionals that played in the event.
While the pros were out on the course Monday, the team spent time finishing mulching and completing detail work around the clubhouse and parking lot areas.
This week was a big spray week for our team. We were able to spray our first round of wetting agent and pre-emergent herbicides on greens, tees and fairways - followed by spraying our native areas with plant growth regulators. We are trying plant growth regulators this year in the native areas for chemical thinning. This will help keep the density/growth down and will prevent the plants from seeding and propagating.
The chemical applications on greens, tees and fairways all needed to be watered in after applied. We took this time to continue our irrigation audit. As always the spring audit showed a lot of sprinkler issues that our team will continue to address over the next couple weeks.
Also this week myself and other Mid-Atlantic GCSAA board members had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the EPA, out of state Departments of Agriculture and chemical companies at the Naval Academy Golf Course. We discussed the golf course Better Management Practices, the benefits that golf courses have to the environment and the work that golf course management professionals are doing for the environment.
Lastly, our team will be spending the remainder of the week finishing all detail work around the course and getting ready for what looks like an amazing weekend for golf.
