Week of May 20th
We actually saw the sun for 3 days in a row this week. After another soggy weekend the sun returned at the beginning of this week but went away again at the end of the week. The team had a great week.
We started out the week focused on a full course mow out to play catchup from last week's rain. The team was able to complete mowing of all rough, tees, fairways, greens and approaches on Monday.
After all the rain and lack of sun the past couple weeks the greens needed some fresh air and sunlight. On Tuesday we were able to spike and mow the greens to help with gas exchange and speed up the drying out process.
Our 10th green - which is composed of the worst soil on the property - has especially not liked the weather. We gave this green a little extra and, after the spike and mow, we decided to vent this green to help.
The team continued to work on dialing in our irrigation this week. Both practice areas' sprinklers were tested and adjusted for proper function.
This week the team started work on re-establishing part of the nursery. This area will be converted into rough grass sod and used around the course this upcoming off season. Also the team completed a small drainage project on the 9 hole to help the rough dry out faster after rain events.
In last week's blog I mentioned a small (and different) project we started in the Orchard. Working with a local beekeeper, this week we introduce a couple bee hives to the Orchard. Bees are great natural pollinators and have been added to the Orchard to help pollinate are new fruit trees. We will be closely monitoring the bee hives over the next couple weeks to see how they are adjusting to their new home. As a reminder bees do sting. Please do not attempt to enter the bee's area as they are very protective of their hives.
Lastly, the team will be fighting through rain storms during the end of the week to complete another full course mow out and preparing for a great holiday weekend. Look forward to seeing everyone around the club.
