Week of July 15th
It has been a while since the last blog post but, as you can imagine, the maintenance team has been fighting through this crazy weather stretch. This has been some of the toughest weather I can remember. Abnormally hot, combined with very little rain, winds and very low humidity has made the last 4 weeks a tough fight.
The pictures above pretty much sum up what every day has been like for the maintenance team. BWI Airport is always a little hotter than at the club, but just to use them as a comparison - through this Wednesday BWI has recorded 28 days above 90 degrees and 5 days above 100 degrees. That is well above average as the normal peak summer average for our area is 88 degrees.
The team has been doing an amazing job keeping in-play areas hydrated by hand watering. Our older/poorly designed irrigation system has made this a daily task. The rough and the out-of-play areas have taken it on the chin, where there is very little or no irrigation coverage at all.
Even with all the hand watering the team has been able to keep up with weekly tasks.
Working the irrigation system as much as we have has lead to a couple irrigation breaks. The team has been on top of all needed repairs.
The new Orchard sign has been installed. Thank you to all the members that donated to this project. Even with this heat, some of the new fruiting trees have already produced some fruit.
As a reminder please keep all carts out of native areas as they are very sensitive to traffic during the summer months.
Thanks for reading.
