Week of Oct. 21st
Last full week of October. The weather has been warm this week and the course is starting to show its fall colors. The team had a great week accomplishing weekly tasks and starting a new phase on our irrigation upgrades.
The fans on holes 6 and 11 have been brought into the shop for the winter. These fans played a huge role this year with the brutal summer weather we had. Fernando will be completing winter service on the fans to ensure proper function for next summer.
Our winter herbicide applications have been completed in native areas. These applications help reduce winter and spring weeds.
It is crazy to think after all the rain we received in late September that we would be talking about wild fires and droughts. This week we are back on the drought monitoring map. With no rain for the last 21 days and less than a quarter inch of rain for the month of October it is very dry on the course. Fall seeding and fertilizer application have been pushed off due to the lack of soil moisture. Irrigation cycles have been used to prevent any drought injury headed into the winter months.
Phase 3 of our winter irrigation upgrades started this week. Phase 3 includes installing 62 quick couples in all fairways and some tees. Quick couples are used to tie-in our hoses for hand watering. In the past the team had to tie into the sprinkler heads to hand water fairways which takes more time to complete watering and adds wear and tear on the sprinklers. We feel that this upgrade will reduce hand watering time by 90 minutes per employee, every time we need to hand water.
Lastly, the team will be spending the remainder of the week cleaning up the course from Thursday's high winds and getting ready for the weekend.
