This week brought another rollercoaster of weather.  60's and 70's the first half of the week to low 30's with rain and ice.  The grass has no idea what to do.  We even hit 74 degrees on Wednesday.  Your RRGC maintenance team made the best of the weather and had another great week.   On Monday we started prepping for the parking lot project which is only a couple weeks away.  Here is Edwin, Fernando and Diego cutting through the old parking lot so we will be able to install irrigation and utility pipes for future clubhouse projects.   We were able to complete our winter tree work program this week.  This tree on the 8th hole was damaged from past storms and not doing well.  The tree was a huge safety risk due to its location right off the cart path and its extensive damage.   This week we were able to complete the very time consuming and labor intensive jog of trimming back the fence line around the property.  This process starts by using a boom mower to trim back the overg

What a crazy week of weather.  60's last Saturday, snow and ice Sunday and Monday, then back to 60's for the last part of the week.  I feel that is how the weather is this time of year in Maryland.  We hope everyone enjoyed the warmer weather but I'm sure winter will return soon.   The crew started the week off inside finishing our last woodworking project for the year.  These crosses and post will be out on the course to help with foot traffic control on walkup areas around the greens.  When you are walking from your cart to the green please walk around the the crosses and post not over them.   We removed the old fence on hole 10 in preparation of a new landscape bed.  This area will look similar to the new landscape bed at the 1st tee and tie in with all the new landscape around the parking lot.   On Wednesday Matt and I attended the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Education Seminar at Turf Valley to continue furthering our education and recertifying our pesticide and fertilizer licens

We had some great weather for the first full week of February.  Highs in the mid to upper 50's have given us a little taste of Spring.  Even with highs in the 50's, the nighttime lows were still in the upper 20's.  This refreezing every night has made it difficult to allow carts off the paths and on the back 9.  It may seem dry in the morning but once the ground starts to thaw the top couple inches become too wet to have carts on the grass.  Once again our maintenance team continued knocking out items on our winter work list.   We started this week repairing the fiber optic conduit running from the clubhouse to the pro shop that was damaged during the construction of the new practice green.  Here is Eddie, Diego and Fernando repairing and lowering the conduit to get ready for the parking lot project starting soon. DWP finally turned the water back on at the pump house on hole 6 so we could inspect and test the new pump station components.  I'm happy to report that every

We received another round of snow and ice on Saturday closing the course early in the week.  Warmer temperatures came in mid week but also brought rain and fog.  The mid-week rain put a stop on the patio project but the paver contractors still made great progress.  The stone contractors will be next, installing the steps and finishing the light pillars. Once the steps and pillars are complete the paver contractors will be able to complete the patio floor.      With the course closed, Fernando, Eddie, Diego, and Fernando Grande were able to repair the damage caused by construction equipment to the bridge on hole 2. We took samples of the new practice green late last week to ensure the new turf was making it through the winter.  The process is very simple: we took 3 cup-cutter plugs out on the green about 4 inches deep, wrap the soil with a wet paper towel and foil, then sealed the samples in a zip lock bag indoors and waited a week. Above are the 3 samples we collected a week later. We
