Week of May 22nd

Another beautiful weather week.  Your maintenance team was extremely busy this week with normal maintenance practices, finishing up seasonal tasks and working on projects around the club.  We used the quiet Monday to mow the entire course so the team could focus on pool opening and course projects during the middle of the week.  This week wasn't without some challenges.  On Tuesday afternoon we had a pipe break under the right side of 10 green.  This was a tricky one to locate.  Fernando and Eddie did an amazing job identifying, planning and repairing the leak with minimal disruption to the green surface.   One of the main focuses this week was moisture management.  The average rainfall for the month of May is around 4 inches.  This May we have totaled only around 1 inch of rainfall.  With the lack of rain, low humidity and windy conditions the team needed to break out the hoses a little earlier this year.   Asphalt work is now complete around the course.  I have been very happy

What a beautiful week of weather.  The course is really starting to show off.  Things are finally greening up.  The crew had a great week on the course.   On Monday during our course outing we continued with the cart path repairs around the course.  Also, we had our new entrance sign installed. The team did an amazing job this week on all our weekly details.  From bunker and stream trimming, full course divot work, edging all sprinkler heads, to flower bed cleaning.  The crew knocked it out of the park.   We did run into some issues this week with the work down on hole 16.  The bundle of wires that runs all the sprinklers on 16 and 17 were cut.  The team did an amazing job with the repair splicing all new wires and making sure all the sprinklers were operational.   We also continued brush cutting greens and approaches this week, completing 3 rounds of brush cutting.  I am very happy with the results so far and we will be continuing this process weekly as the weather permits.   Lastly,

It was another busy week at the club.  The crew had an amazing work week, with outings and a member tournament the team was able to complete all weekly task and some projects.  On Monday and Tuesday I was down in D.C. helping run the National Golf Day service project.  We had over 200 turf industry volunteers, 35 different states represented and over one million dollars of donated equipment and tools - all to help the National Park Service with planting over 1200 perennials, 12 pallets of sod and spreading 4 truckloads of mulch.   This week we were able to spray every blade of rough with our pre-/post-emergent herbicides and season-long grub control.  Also this week we started much needed cart path repairs.  Our asphalt contractors were able to complete the cart path on 11 green and start the path on hole 14.  Over the next couple weeks we will continue repairing carts paths on holes 5, 7, 8 and 17.   Lastly, this week the team completed a round of aerification on the practice green.

This week felt more like March than the first week of May.  Chilly and rainy was the story this week.  With the colder weather it allowed our team to knock out all our normal weekly tasks and finish up some details around the club.  We started off the week where we have started the last couple by brush cutting greens to work on texture.  With the new brushes on the greens mowers we have been very happy with the results.  Each week it seems to be less grass standing up. Tuesday was a full mow out.  The team was able to mow all playing surfaces to catch up for the rain late last week.   The middle of the week the team focused on details around the course.  There was some trash talking about me not "having it" anymore, so I had to show the young guns I could still keep up with the weed-wacker.  Well, at least I thought I could.   We found some time this week to start getting the pool ready.  With only a couple weeks to go it was nice to be ahead of the game this year.   Lastly
