Week of Nov.27th

The maintenance team hopes everyone had a great holiday last week.  This week was a very cold and windy week.  The team fought through the weather and had a great last week of November.  The main focus this week was our winter aerification to all the greens.  The process this year was to be aggressive but to have less impact on next spring's golfing season.  The team started out by topdressing all the greens followed by a 1/2" deep tine that went 10" deep.  After the deep tine we punched a 3/8" solid tine followed by a 3/8" coring tine.   Once the cores where dry enough we dragged all the material and sand into the holes. Then the crew blew off the remaining debris followed by a brush roll and a regular roll.  The team finished all the greens by the end of the day Tuesday with just some clean up on Wednesday.   After greens aerification was complete the team switched gears and started cleaning up leaves left behind from the winds on Tuesday and Wednesday.   La

This week we continued the weather pattern we have been stuck in: cold and frosty start to the week and way above average temperatures for the end of the week...with no rain.  It has been difficult to completely switch into winter mode but the team had a very productive week.   The team started off the week brush cutting and topdressing greens.  We will continue incorporating sand into the greens canopy as the weather permits.   Last week we started working on the tree master plan and continued this week.  The focus has been removing trees that pose safety concerns to golfers, buildings and other structures. We took advantage of the extremely dry conditions and had our tree company come out to help us with some trees that were either too big for us or were next to power lines.  Carroll Tree removed the two huge willows that were severely compromised at the creek between 16 and 17 tee.  Also they removed a maple at the parking lot that was overhanging a power line.  The maple was desc

It was a roller coaster of weather this week.  The week started with temperatures well above average and then rain showers, flurries and frost.  The team had a great last week of October.   We started off the week spraying greens, tees and fairways with wetting agent to help with the continued dry soil conditions.  It is important to keep the plants hydrated before the grass goes dormant.  This has been a challenge and we are once again on the drought map, having received less than 1 inch of rainfall during the month of October.   The leaves have finally started to fall.  The team's main focus this week was leaf clean-up.  This is a long battle that the team will be dealing with for the next couple weeks.   While the team waited out frost, they were able to knock out a few winter items this week.  They split firewood from last year's tree work and installed more bricks around the 15th tee complex.   With the dry conditions this year it was easy to identify some areas where th
