Rolling Road GC Golf Course Management

  The story for the last full week of May was "beating the rain." With the holiday weekend and rain our team did their best completing weekly tasks with the short week.   With heavy rain forecasted for Tuesday afternoon the team's main focus before the rain was a full mow out and spraying all short grass.   Also before Tuesday's rain the team was able to sneak in our season-long insect control in all native areas and apply top-dressing to the greens.     With the course soaked after almost 2 inches of rain the team focused on detail work on Thursday.  They completed a full bunker detail, edging sprinkler heads, and fairway divots.   Lastly, with more rain forecasted for Friday, the team will concentrate on a full mow out of the course before the weekend.  Thanks for reading.

  First full week of May and spring is here.  This week the weather has been beautiful. With some much needed rain last weekend, the course is starting to shine.  The team had an unbelievable week - everything from irrigation leaks, flowers, tree work and normal weekly maintenance.  They crushed it.   The team started off the week receiving our flower order for the year and wasted no time installing over 100 flats and over 1500 individual flowers in 2 days.   Also at the beginning of the week we completed some emergency tree work between holes 6 and 7.  This Elm was in bad shape and was causing issues on the 7th fairway.  The root system of the Elm was compromised due to old age and was actually leaking water into the fairway. We did have some irrigation issues to resolve this week but this year has started off better than prior years as far as irrigation repairs.  Fingers crossed.   We have also started our grooming and b...

This week will mark the start of a new month.  For the last week of April the weather has been beautiful.  The team is happy that aeration is behind us and we are looking forward to getting into our weekly routine.  It was a busy week for the team and the course is starting to shine.   This week was a busy spray week.  Greens, tees and fairways were sprayed starting our weekly and bi-weekly programs.   The team was able to start punching rough this week.  The main focus was relieving compaction in high traffic areas.   We did have a storm roll through early Wednesday morning, covering the greens with debris and knocking down a few large limbs.  The Orchard took the brunt of the storm blowing over a few of our fruit trees.   The team spent a lot of time this week catching up on details around the course.   Also, this week we found some time to start working on a joint project with the Kitchen Staff.  Mor...
