Week of March 7th
Some interesting weather we have had for the first full week in March. From record-breaking highs on Sunday and Monday to cold and rainy in the middle of the week - then frost and potential snow for the end of the week and this weekend. The team has continued putting in the hard work to get ready for the golf season.
Also on Monday, we were able to get all the stumps ground down around the property. Next week we will start cleaning up these areas and prep them for sod.
Lastly, this week we have started to see the finish line on the patio project and have made the decision to start prepping for the parking lot project. The patio contractors have made great progress the last 2 weeks and should be wrapping up soon. This week the parking lot project started with prepping the new concrete pads for the dumpster area and behind the maintenance shop. Next week the plan is to start patching the new parking lot areas and replacing the cart path on hole 13.
On Monday we started working on the new short game area fairway. We top-dressed the fairway using 7-2-1 sand mix then punched 3/4" solid tines and finished off dragging in the sand mix. This process will help smooth out the fairway and help with water infiltration.
On Tuesday the team continued repairing and sodding areas around the new bunker complexes that didn't survive last season. To date we have repaired 75% of the damaged areas using the nursery sod we established last season. We will complete the other areas in the next couple of weeks.
We were able to get our first greens spray of 2022 completed on Tuesday. This spray was for poa seed head suppression. This application (followed by 2 more seed head suppression applications) will reduce the amount of poa seed heads popping up this spring which will help keep the greens smooth and will give the poa a better chance of surviving the heat of summer.
Before the rain on Wednesday, we continued working on the rough sod around the greens and new tees. After we punched all the new rough areas last week, we used the rain to our advantage and applied amendments to all sodded areas.
We were able to sneak in a couple small sod projects later in the week. Here is the crew expanding the forward tees on hole 2 and hole 6 to maximize the teeing area to help with traffic and wear.
