Week of April 29th
Last couple days of April and a start to a new month. Spring is flying by and with this week's weather it looks like Mother Nature jumped right into summer. Last week we had 3 frost delays and this week we had 3 days that reached the 90°F mark. Our team had a great week.
We started off the week punching all greens before the Monday outing followed by a soil spray to help with rooting and water infiltration. We were able to perform a less invasive aerification this spring because of the more aggressive aerification the team completed in the winter.
On Tuesday following the greens punching the team completed a groom cut followed by top-dressing and brushing.
We found a little time in the beginning of the week to complete a small project between the 14th and 18th green. This area is crushed by cart traffic and always looks out of place. The team killed and removed all the grass. Then installed fresh topsoil and compost for the start of a new flower bed. Flowers and shrubs should arrive next week to complete this project.
Tree plantings were also on the agenda this week. The team planted 5 more fruiting trees at the Orchard. We are still waiting for the remaining 5 trees to complete this year's Orchard planting. Also this week we installed a memorial tree in honor of "The Godfather."
We continue to dial in our new equipment to get the best quality of cut on all surfaces. Our TORO vendor was able to swing by this week to fine-tune the fairway mowers for the upcoming season.
Full course detail was completed this week. With some other projects we had over the last couple of weeks we were behind on our weekly detail work. The team made sure that we caught right back up.
Lastly, for Friday the team will be focused on tackling a full course mow out, our weekly green spray and our spring pre-emergent application in native areas. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
