Week of Aug. 19th

What an amazing week of weather.  We received over 2 inches of rain on Sunday evening and with the temperatures we had this week the course really perked back up.  The crew had a great week.

With Sunday evening's rain the main focus at the beginning of the week was details.  The crew performed sand depth checks on bunkers, and topped off all divots on tees and fairways after storm clean up.

This week we were able to spot spray weeds that popped up in the rough.  The weeds have been a challenge this year because of the hot weather.  Pre-emergent herbicides break down over time by moisture and soil temperatures.  The hot weather this summer has made our pre-emergent applications break down faster this year than during normal years.

Also this week the team was able to top-dress all approaches and tees to help with firmness and reduce scalping.

Even with the 2+ inches of rain the team continued to work on the "Localized Dry Spot" in fairways.  We applied another round of granular wetting agent and hand watered the product in to help wet the soil in these spots.

With the break in the hot weather we decided to sod the thin area on 16 green.  This area will take some time to grow in, so over the next couple weeks please stay off this area and play it as "Ground Under Repair."

A quick reminder, when using the grass tee practice area please do not pretend to be a sod cutter.  As you can see from the pictures above, the top area will take weeks if not over a month to heal and the bottom picture will take no time at all to heal.  Please use straight lines when practicing.

Great news from the beekeeper this week: the beehive is doing great and we are anticipating adding 1 or 2 move hives for next year.

For the remainder of the week the team will be focused on detail work and getting ready for a great weekend and the 1st round of Club Championship.
