Week of March 3rd
Up and down weather for the first full week of March. This week started off chilly, then turned warm with thunderstorms in the middle of the week - and ended windy with seasonal temperatures. The maintenance team had a very busy week and are finishing the winter strong.
The team started off the week finishing landscape improvements in the parking lot. They removed all the old grasses, pavers and installed 16 bushes to update this area.
Also, at the start of this week we punched and seeded stump hole areas around the property.
The team put the final touches on all course accessories, installed new divot bottle stations and finished all staining around the course. Course accessories will start going out on the course next week.
Matt was able to apply of first spray of 2025 on fairways this week. This application was targeting seedheads on Poa. Restricting seedhead production allows for a stronger plant come summer time and better playing conditions in the Spring. Also this week with rain in the forecast we made our first application to help with Fairy Ring.
The big project this week was installing 26 new sprinkler heads on holes 6 and 11. The new sprinklers were installed to help water edges on fairways more efficiently without overwatering the middles of the fairways. Our irrigation contractor will be here next week to plow in over 14,000 ft of wire so the new heads can be operated from the irrigation computer.
Lastly, I would like to introduce our new Co-Assistant Superintendent Julian Lutz. Julian is born and raised in Maryland but has worked at a number of courses around the country. She received her Turf Degree from Rutgers University while completing her internship at Caves Valley and Hillcrest Country Club.
