Week of March 21st

The weather battle continued this week.  We are so close to finishing many of our projects, if we could just get a solid week of great weather we could push across the finish line.                                                      The parking lot and cart path project continued this week, starting off strong on Monday but by Wednesday we were delayed again.  Weather plays a huge role in completing this improvement.  Rain shuts the project down and we have found many more issues with the parking lot than first thought.  As of now the goal is to have the parking lot completed by Friday of next week.  On Tuesday we started our spring aerification.  The crew had a great day Tuesday.  We were able to complete punching, cleaning up, top-dressing and brushing all 18 greens.     After the greens aerification was complete on Tuesday, we finished all approaches and the new practice area on Wednesday morning .  Our goal this week was to complete all greens, approaches, and tees but the rain We

As many of you most likely saw, it was a very busy week around the club.  From the patio and parking lot projects, to sod, stump grindings and normal golf course maintenance - it has been a great week.  The weather for the most part was great and the team once again knocked it out of the park. We started off the week continuing to sod cart path edges around the course.  On Monday the team also continued work on the new practice green.  Here is Raul, Fernando and Diego walking every square inch of the practice green using top-dressing sand to fill in any imperfections on the surface to help reduce mechanical damage and ensure a smooth surface.  We also sprayed our first fairway application of 2022 for Poa seed-head suppression.  As with the greens application last week, this spray will prevent the Poa from seeding and help the Poa survive the summer months.    On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the team cleaned out all stump grinding debris.  We will start filling the stump holes with f

Some interesting weather we have had for the first full week in March.  From record-breaking highs on Sunday and Monday to cold and rainy in the middle of the week - then frost and potential snow for the end of the week and this weekend.  The team has continued putting in the hard work to get ready for the golf season. On Monday we started working on the new short game area fairway.  We top-dressed the fairway using 7-2-1 sand mix then punched 3/4" solid tines and finished off dragging in the sand mix.  This process will help smooth out the fairway and help with water infiltration.   Also on Monday, we were able to get all the stumps ground down around the property.  Next week we will start cleaning up these areas and prep them for sod.   On Tuesday the team continued repairing and sodding areas around the new bunker complexes that didn't survive last season. To date we have repaired 75% of the damaged areas using the nursery sod we established last season. We will complete th

What a great weather week for some early season golf and projects around the club. The team started off the week installing irrigation pipes and utilities in preparation for the parking project.  We also needed to remove the tree near the pro-shop for the new cart staging area.   On Tuesday we added irrigation to the rough on hole 18 next to the maintenance shop.  This addition will not only help keep the rough alive in a high play area but will help with irrigation coverage in the fairway due to poor sprinkler head spacing.   We continued punching all sod areas from last year's bunker and tee project to help with compaction and traffic.  We will try to punch these areas 2 more times before the summer.   With the great weather this week we were able to get the root pruner out.  Eddie completed root pruning all trees and fence lines around the property.  Pruning tree roots reduces the competition for water and nutrients between trees and turf grass leading to healthier turf.   Lastl
