Week of Sept. 26th

Fall is finally in the air.  It was a beautiful weather week filled with chilly mornings and sun every afternoon.  It was a busy week on the course with an outing on Monday and 2 member tournaments.  The team did an amazing job working between the outing and tournaments to have another great week.   On Monday the team completed another round of aerification on approaches and practice fairways before the outing went off. On Tuesday we finished off the approaches and practice fairways with a heavy topdressing followed by a verti-cut and drag to set the sand in place.   This week we continued working on the new practice fairway and new tees to get them ready to open very soon.  They are looking great and enjoying this weather.   The team was able to start punching and over-seeding rough.  We will continue to work on weak areas especially under trees over the next couple of weeks.   The only struggle we have had with this beautiful weather is keeping the seed in the new native areas wet.

What an amazing week of weather!!  The team had a extremely busy week with projects but, as always, they exceeded my expectations and crushed it.   We took advantage of the outing on Monday and installed the new irrigation on the gold tee on hole 16.  Here is Fernando installing all new pipe, wires, and sprinklers.   Early this week we completed the improvements to the 1st tee and short game area and it is looking great.  We were able to roll the new short game chipping area twice this week and hope to get the first cut done later this week.   With the completion of the 16th gold tee the team was finally able to finish punching and seeding the last of the new native areas.  As you are playing you will notice the areas that were seeded 10 days ago have already started to pop.  Please do not drive carts into these areas.  The team has been keeping these areas wet to allow the seed to germinate.   Also this week we have started work to level some forward tees.  We will be able to comple

It has been a very active week.  We started off the week wet - which delayed some projects - but we finished off the week back on schedule.  As always the team crushed it this week.   The team took advantage of the wet conditions at the start of the week, repairing 4 irrigation leaks and found a drainage issue on hole 5 that needed to be addressed.   We continued punching and seeding the new native areas this week.  We have seeded all the areas except between holes 9 and 15 where we need to finish the 16th tee project before we are able to seed.   The renovation projects were in full swing this week.  The 16th gold tee was lowered and moved to the right for better alignment to the fairway.  The trees between holes 8 and 16 started encroaching and blocked the left side of the tee shot.   The fairway bunker on 9 has been reshaped to allow water coming off the cart path to move around the bunker and prevent washouts.  This was the only bunker that had significant washouts after major ra

This week started off with our Club Championship Finals.  It was a great day to watch some great golf.  It is definitely my favorite weekend of the year.  Congratulations to all the players and to all of our 2022 Champions.    Monday night and Tuesday morning the course finally received a much needed slow soaking rain.  A little over 2.5" of rain fell.  It was nice to have some time for shop cleaning and organizing.  The crew needed a break from dragging hoses.   One Wednesday we took advantage of the break from watering to knock out more irrigation repairs including 1 underneath the 1st green.  The crew was able to repair a total of 7 leaks around the course.   Also on Wednesday we turned on the groomers and brushes on all short grass mowers to work on texture.  Continuing to use the brushes and groomers will allow us to lower heights and increase overall turf density.  We will be using the brushes and groomers throughout the fall.   The big project that started this week is th

As I'm updating the blog it is officially September!!!!!  August was a wild ride.  The month started off wet and ended with 2+ weeks of no rain.  There were 15+ days in August over 90 degrees with the humidity all over the place.  It was a tough stretch but the maintenance team did everything they could to get through it.   We started off the week continuing to try and keep grass hydrated to make it through each day.  The crew did an amazing job fighting through the dry weather dragging hoses each and every day.   As you can see from these pictures we even took out the full circle sprinkler heads in the fairways and used part circle sprinklers to keep the edges of the fairways and rough alive and not over water the middles of the fairways.  You can also see the poor spacing of our irrigation system where in some fairways there is 20 feet or more from the sprinkler to the intermediate rough which only gets half of the irrigation it needs.  This is why, as we have discussed in the pa
