Week of March 25th

For the last full week of March we had some typical March weather.  Frosty mornings, highs in the 50's and a couple chilly damp days.  The crew was excited this week wrapping up some winter projects, starting some normal spring practices and seeing the course continue to green up.   This week started off different and will be remembered forever.  The team was shocked (as was everyone) to hear the news of the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday morning.  Seeing the Key Bridge every morning at sunrise was a nice treat that will be missed.  The team's main focus this week was punching all the fairways before the rain.  The crew did an amazing job fighting frost delays every morning and even finished the last couple fairways in the rain on Wednesday.  After the fairways were punched we followed behind with the mowers to smooth everything out.   The team was able to finish the areas behind 3 green, between holes 6/7 and hole 14 where trees had been removed.

Wow, what a difference a week makes.  70 last week with a beautiful weekend to cold, windy and even some snow showers this week.  The team didn't miss a beat switching from spring weather back to winter weather.  The main focus for the crew this week was prepping for another truckload of sod finishing up some winter projects.   We were able to sneak in our second application for Poa-Annua seed head control on greens this week.  Our fairways were also due for their second application but the wind this week prevented us from completing this task.  We hope to finish the fairway application at the beginning of next week.   The team was able to sod all winter tee areas this week.  This is a very detail orientated task trying to match up the sodded area to the existing tee, but the crew (to no surprise) crushed it.   One area of focus this week was the walk-on/walk-off area of the 1st green.  This area sees some of the most traffic and the bunkers don't help by funneling all traffi

What a beautiful week, with highs in the 70's it really felt like spring this week.  The course is starting to green up and lose its winter color.  Our team enjoyed the weather and stayed very busy continuing projects around the course and getting the course ready for a busy golf week.   The team started off the week laying a truckload of sod.  We focused on stump holes, irrigation expansion areas and other areas around the course that got beat up from winter work.  We will be getting one more truckload of sod next week to finish everything up.   At the beginning of the week we did see some very strong winds.  We even recorded gusts in the 60mph range.  After the winds calmed - and in between sod pallets - the team spent some time blowing, raking and cleaning up debris around the course.   Lastly, now that handicap season is finally here the team spent all day Wednesday and Thursday mowing all short grass, going back to a single cup in the greens, raking bunkers, and putting the

Rain, rain - go away.  It has been a very wet week but the rain didn't stop the crew.  The team dodged the rain and had a very productive week.   The crew started off the week continuing to prep areas around the course for sod.  The plan was to get a truck of sod this week but the constant rain stopped the sod farm from being able to harvest sod.  Our plan is to get a truckload of sod Tuesday next week.   The big project for the team this week was a complete bunker sand depth check.  Even with all the rain they were able to check, move and add sand to all 67 bunkers around the course.   For the remainder of the week we will be focused on mowing greens and cleaning up the course for the weekend.  The course is extremely wet from all the rain and the weekend forecast is calling for more to come.   Thanks for reading.
